Calling Evil Good

The Rolling Stones have an old song called ‘Sympathy for the Devil’. This is just another example of how through the ages, we’ve been slipped very, very tiny amounts of poison that will always be to our demise – yet we’ve enjoyed it! Darth Vadar used to be the bad guy. He was doing the bidding of the evil emperor to destroy that which was ‘good’. But as the story unfolded, we were being conditioned to like the charming and good looking Anakin Skywalker and then to feel sorry for him as he was transformed into darkness. The evil witch in the Brothers Grimm story of Sleeping Beauty used to be the ultimate picture of wickedness as she put a curse and a spell on the beautiful princess and then transformed into a fire breathing dragon to do battle with the good prince. Nowadays, the witch is being portrayed with sympathy and the story twisted to make that which was once evil as good – and this is targeted at our precious little ones – and we like it and encourage it?!?! The prophet Isaiah warned “Woe to them that call evil good and that call good evil; that disguise darkness for light and disguise light for darkness; that disguise bitter for sweet and disguise sweet for bitter”. Jesus instructed us that we could be self-deceived into believing that we could be full of light – yet that ‘light’ would be great darkness! (Matthew 6:22-24).
